SEO: Adding Meta title and Meta description in Oidom

Meta description and meta title are an essential part of search engine optimization (SEO). There used to be things like meta keywords, but they are no longer relevant to search engines today. A meta title is often the title that a search engine utilizes as a title in search results, and accordingly, a meta description is the body text that appears in a search result.

Search engines don’t like double content. Thus, each meta description and title should be unique. Each page should therefore have its own meta description and title. Meta information should be related to the content of each page.

The purpose of this guide is to show you where you can edit meta data in Oidom and, on the other hand, give a little hint as to what you could write there.

Adding Meta title and Meta description

Here is a short video about how to add meta title and description on a front page. Same way you should add meta to your other pages also.

Adding Meta :

  1. When you are at Oidom editor go to edit your web pages:click the page name in navigation
or go to “Pages” in the left bar to add meta information to the page you want.
Click on the three points “…” next to the page to which you want to add metadata and select “Edit Settings”.
  2. From the settings page open the SEO settings by clicking “SEO”
  3. You are now in the search engine optimization settings . Here you can add a meta title and meta description. It is a good idea to add only the most important keywords to the meta title for SEO on that page.On the front page, it may be a good idea for the company to add, for example, the name of the company, an important product, a location (for example, if there is a restaurant for whose customers the location matters). As an example, for a politician creating a website it would be good idea to add his/her name and candidate number and also the his/her party. Similarly, a blogger might might want to add his/her name in the search results and in addition, it is good idea to add what is the blog about.
It’s a good idea to include similar things in the meta description as well, but you can write a little more and possibly include a couple of more keywords related to that particular page. There should be no more than 160 characters. If you type more than that, it could be that google shortens the meta description. It’s also good to note that Google ultimately decides what to show in a search result.
  4. In the end of the settings page, you can also add a specific image to be shared on social media. It’s the default image that appears when you link to a page on Facebook, for example. You can also add this later and skip it for now.
  5. Once you’ve added a meta title and description, you can exit the setting by clicking the “<” button in the upper left corner. Also, be sure to publish for the changes to take effect on your published website.

Please also note that Google will not re-crawl pages until sometime later, so changes will not appear immediately in search results, but only in due course. The delay can very well be weeks. The Google Search Console is a service where you can try to get that crawl done faster.
